Bing’s Top 100 Songs by Year iPhone App

I just stumbled upon a fairly new app by Microsoft under their Bing label.

What you do is select the year that you want to listen to and the app serves up the top 100 songs according to Billboard that year. It plays them in a Pandora type shuffle to where you can only skip to the next song. You can click a button and see all the songs from that year but you cannot select a specific song to play.

The other downside to the app is that it puts up an ad for the main Bing iPhone app every 3 or so songs where you have to manually click next to continue with the music. I downloaded the app that they were advertising but the ads still come up.

They are advertising that this app is going to be $1.99 but is free right now. I would hope that they would remove the ads in you actually pay for the app. I guess we will just need to see.

Currently I am groovin’ like it’s 1993. Hip Hop Hooray! Ho. Hay. Ho.

Here’s a link to the app in the iTunes App Store – Top 100s by Year by Bing

Actually, I have found that the interstitial bing ad does go away on it’s own after a few seconds, or you can click the skip to get rid of it sooner. Other than that little annoyance, (and the fact that because it’s an app and there’s no multi-tasking, I lose my song place if a call or text comes in, or I want to use another app), I love this app. I have been giving it almost if not as much “air” time as the iPod functionality.

  7. Lexie says:

Did apple take the app away completely? Or are they getting it back? I accidentally deleted it on my iPod now I can’t find it

  8. Dan says:

It looks like the took it away completely. I have no idea why. It was a cool app and now it’s gone.

In it’s place though I would recommend Spotify.com.

Spotify lets you listen to any type of music or artist for free from your desktop. Their paid version allows you to do it from your iOS device.

Last but not least there Pandora.com. With it you just pick a song or artist that you like and they create a streaming radio station with similar types of song.

I know it sucks that this app is gone but the ones above are pretty good as well.
